Our first trip to Lancaster, PA

Lancaster, the world of the Amish. It has been on my place-to-travel list since I stay in Pennsylvania. It is about an hour and half from Bethlehem to Lancaster (au pair monthly meeting was in Christklmarkt, Bethlehem).

Allen and I had lunch in Plain & Fancy. Their featured meal is "The Amish Farm Feast" which includes starters (Chow Chow, pepper cabbage, raisin bread, and potato rolls) and Entrees (fried chicken, roasted beef, chicken pot pie with noodle, home baked sausage). The feast doesn't end unless you have your desserts (sour cream apple crumb pie served with vanilla ice-cream and wet bottom shoo-fly pie). I am glad that we had another Indian family whose from New Jersey joined our table for lunch feast. More people down the food.

Buggy ride is a good experience where you can sit back and enjoy the beautiful Dutch country landscape. However it was Sunday and Amish reserve Sunday as a day away from work. That means no buggy ride service and plus, it was raining. Bummer. At last, we did the Amish Village back road bus tour which costs $20 per person. It took 90 minutes to tour through historic Amish farm lands. Our knowledgeable tour guide tells us the history, beliefs, customs, traditions of the Amish life. I am surprise how Amish people can sustain on their own without depend too much on the latest technologies and their decision to come back to live in their community after a year break staying in a non-Amish world.

There is so much things to do and see but we didn't get the chance to try them all. Perhaps next time. =)

You can't really compare to a horse.
